Excellent Reggae and hip-hop CD. Pick up a copy today! - RadioIndy.com "Throw the First Stone" & "Take the Streets" is a fun CD of excellent reggae and hip-hop tracks from 2 EPs of the Halfway Crooks. The blend of styles results in an excellent collection of very solid tracks. The production and recording quality are excellent throughout, and the band is tight. Tracks such as "Gimme a Stone" and "Pan2Landscape" have a memorable chorus and an excellent upbeat groove that will get your body moving and remind you of some of UB-40's finer work. The band sounds equally as good when it takes a more hip-hop style, on tracks such as "Get Em Up," "Start Again," and "Insane." If you enjoy listening to fun reggae and/or hip-hop music performed by talented musicians, you'll enjoy this CD.
Pick up a copy today! The Halfway Crooks are a band at the start of a unique blend of reggae-rock, live hip-hop, and ska from Yonkers, New York. They came together in early 2004, mixing several musical elements together in a style that can only be described by hearing it: soulful and grooving rock, reggae, ska, hip-hop, and funk rhythms; overlapped by smooth melodies, melodic raps, and infectious hooks; sporadically accompanied by guest lyricists and vocalists, as well as brass instruments and percussion; culminating with insightful and memorable lyrics that paint a picture, bound to stick in your head. Following a path of originality, similar to the influences of Sublime, the Roots, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Halfway Crooks blend several layers that equally appeal to fans of many genres, people of different cultures, and ages spanning from Generation Y to the Baby-Boomers, widening their potential audience to no limits. The average Joe will always stop on a radio station for a good one-liner hook, and music lovers everywhere welcome the improvisational element and eclectic sounds that the Halfway Crooks' music exhibits. The group is known for their energetic performances and stage antics, which makes every show a party within itself. They strives to make their audience more than just onlookers as they do whatever it takes to get their audience as involved as possible. From mascots to special guests, party favors to games and prizes, when you're at a Crooks show, you never know what youre going to get. The only constant is the great music that makes the Halfway Crooks a must-see act, attracting fans of all different musical backgrounds to unite under a common interest... damn good music and a damn good time. The commercial music scene is always thirsty for a kick in the ass to fire it up and showcase a band that appeals to a universal audience. The Halfway Crooks have made an impression on many local NY bar, club, and college scenes. They have played all over the area including charity events and private parties, as well as world famous NYC clubs such as CBGB's. They were also the winners of the 2006 Battle of the Bands held by The Bayou in Mt. Vernon, NY. In the past year, the Crooks have expanded through the Northeast gigging in Philly, D.C., Massachusetts, and Vermont, bringing their music to a wider audience. With the release of the new album "Raise the Bar" on 12/31/07, the Halfway Crooks have proved they are a band that stands out from the rest and have a bright future ahead.
